“The assessment helped us uncover facilities issues that could have grown into larger problems over time, and zumBrunnen helped us resolve them. The database allows us to accurately budget for the future and know how much to set aside for healthy maintenance reserves.”
Lynn Robertson, former Finance and Facilities Director
The Fletcher School
The Fletcher School, having operated for 20 years out of temporary/portable classrooms, raised the capital for a building program that would take them into the future. Between 2002 and 2009, they spent close to $15 million to construct 70,900 square feet of classroom and administrative space and build a large gym. After their building program was completed, they needed a system to identify future maintenance, replacements and upgrades required to keep up the facilities and a plan to set aside sufficient funds each year to pay for them.
John zumBrunnen, President, along with Richard Lombroia, Senior Project Manager, assessed the facility and developed a detailed budget that included items that would need to be repaired/replaced and when that should be expected. Additionally, zumBrunnen identified several latent issues including issues relating to: grading, roofing, acoustics and humidity. zumBrunnen helped The Fletcher School to facilitate the repairs at minimal cost. Having these corrected before serious and expensive problems arose, saved the school money and potential future costly repairs. Next, the building data was centralized into the FacilityForecast® Software system. The database brought everything together in one place making it easy to create a detailed budget for each building. Fletcher is now able to plan for the future and set aside funds to maintain healthy reserves.
