LeadingAge Washington Annual Conference June 7-9, 2016:
The LeadingAge Washington Annual Conference will be held June 7-9, 2016 in Spokane, WA. Doug McMillan, P.E., President of zumBrunnen, Inc. and Lisa Hardy, CEO of The Emerald Communities will co-present an educational session titled “Capital Budgeting, Facility Assessment & Strategic Planning” on June 7 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
Capital Budgeting, Facility Assessment & Strategic Planning:
This session will examine the fundamentals of facility assessment and capital budgeting that allows owners to develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan. It is critical to their strategic planning process to answer conclusively – what are the capital replacement needs of my community and what can we afford? This session will discuss the capital budgeting and planning process to prepare comprehensive studies for the entire campus including site, structures, mechanical and electrical systems, FF&E and equipment. The use of proprietary facility condition assessment and planning tools will be discussed based on a case study from Emerald Communities in Redmond, WA.
LeadingAge Pennsylvania Annual Conference June 15-17, 2016:
The LeadingAge Pennsylvania Annual Conference will be held June 15-17, 2016 in Hersey, PA. Doug McMillan, P.E., President of zumBrunnen, Inc. and Bernadette O’Toole, Partner with CliftonLarsonAllen will co-present an educational session titled “The Art of Strategic Capital Planning” on June 17 from 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM.
The Art of Strategic Capital Planning:
This session will explain how a physical needs assessment is critical to develop an organization’s short and long-term strategic capital replacement planning budget. Attendees will learn how to evaluate their organization’s financial strength and capacity to access capital to fund their strategic plan. The session will examine the methodologies used by financial advisers and facility assessment consultants to plan and implement new services, renovations, repairs and capital improvements.

Doug McMillan, P.E., is President of zumBrunnen, Inc. He began his engineering career in 1980, and he joined zumBrunnen, Inc. in 1998. McMillan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. He is a former Resident Engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and he is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). McMillan is a licensed professional Civil Engineer in the state of California.
